| Veronica Swift, nee O'Brien, was born May 14,
1994. At age 13 she is already a professional singer and recording artist
having released two CD's, one at the age of ten which featured Richie Cole and
the most recent, "It's Great to be Alive", featuring Harry Allen on tenor
saxophone. She has appeared in festivals and clubs throughout the U.S.
including the jazz standard in New York City, Blues Alley in Washington D.C. and
twice headlining at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New
York. |
|
Her repertoire includes
"Route 66", "Twisted",
"Just in Time" and "A Tisket-A Tasket". "She's a swinger"- says dad. |
She has been a member of The Young Razzcals Jazz
Project since December, 2003 as a vocalist, performing with them on the east
coast and on two tours in the southwestern and western United States, beginning
in Albuquerque and culminating on the main stage of the famed Telluride Jazz
Festival in Telluride, Colorado.
Mentored by Dave Adams, director of the Young Razzcals
Jazz Project, she has developed her improvisation skills both in voice and
trumpet and has picked up on the skills and talents of her parents, jazz pianist
Hod O'Brien and vocalist Stephanie Nakasian, with whom she performs on a regular
basis around the country. Her style is most interesting due to the fact
that she presents her voice not in a loud theatrical manner, but in a laid-back,
easy swinging jazz style a la Peggy Lee. She's capable of fast swing as
well as slow ballads and can tackle some of the most complicated music in jazz
vocal repertory, including Annie Ross' "Twisted", Jon Hendricks' "Four", and
other numbers made famous by Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross. |
